Thief Poses as Customer, Steals Phone from Ghaziabad Optical Shop
A thief posing as a customer stole a mobile phone from Nath Opticals in Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara area after distracting the shop owner during a routine eyewear inquiry. Police have opened an investigation into the Wednesday theft, highlighting rising security concerns for small businesses.
According to the shop owner, the man asked to see a particular pair of spectacles, prompting him to step away from the counter. Seizing the brief moment of distraction, the visitor quietly lifted the phone placed on the counter and walked out of the shop. The theft went unnoticed until the owner returned and found the device missing.
Realizing what had happened, the shopkeeper immediately reported the matter, but the suspect had already fled the premises. Police have since launched an investigation and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the theft, including the possibility of identifying the culprit through nearby surveillance footage.
The incident underscores the growing challenge faced by small business owners who must remain alert even during routine customer interactions. As police continue their inquiry, the case serves as a reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and improved security measures in local commercial establishments.
